It’s finally here!!! After many months of waiting, it’s safe to say our bedroom update is officially done…sorta. We checked off all the boxes on our wish list that I shared with you back in March (you can find it here) but we did leave a few blank. You will have to read on to find out what we skipped over, for now.
I left you hanging when the paint was dry and the wall paper went up and let me tell you my friends, it looks amazing! I honestly forgot to take a before picture and I’m kicking myself for it as it is night and day different. We don’t have a dark place, our townhouse is fairly bright but our room now is so bright it’s almost glowing! The colour of the paint and the wallpaper turn out to be a seamless match, I don’t think these pictures do it justice, it looks 100 times better in person. If you are wondering where the wall paper is from we picked it up at Home Depot and it is beyond affordable, only $35ish per roll! We used two rolls to create a feature wall behind our bed. This is a similar style to what we used.
After the walls were done it was time to refinish our dressers. We have your typical Ikea dressers (yes the ones that have been recalled) in the black brown colour and it was time for them to go. Unfortunately we didn’t quite have the budget for new dressers so the closest we could come to new dressers was refinishing them. I partnered up with the Handpicked Home Shop in Whiterock and used Fat Paint to transform our dressers into chalk white. The dressers have a bit of a rustic feel to them, even with not doing much distressing, I think its just due to the general wear of them. But they look amazing and really pop against the new wall colour. I think they really help to enhance the bright and airy feel of the room.
The next thing up on the DIY list was a headboard, for this I was still stuck trying to figure out if I wanted an upholstered or a wood panel headboard, either would go nicely I think. But as the laws would have it before I could get started on that project we decided we were going to sell our house. Why does selling our house have anything to do with a headboard you ask? Well should we get the “perfect” house it WILL have room for a king sized bed, something we desperately need. That being said I will save my DIY for my future bed and whatever spare room we have can have my boring old bed frame.
I also decided to skip out on the full length mirror for now. Due to selling we wanted to keep the room as clutter free as possible and who knows how much space I will have at the next place, perhaps I will have a dressing room and not just a closet, haha, I totally kid there. To finish up the room we swapped out our black bedside lamps for some simple silver and white ones. I replaced our discoloured duvet cover with a fresh new white one, sorry Izzy, no more bed hangs for you!
It really is amazing how a few small changes can really transform a room. I am wishing we had done this when we first moved in so we could have more time to enjoy all our handwork. I think we might be duplicating it at the next place, because I just love the wall paper that much!
