Date Night at Rowena’s Inn on the River

Last Sunday night after a little planning, we snuck out for a little date night. Lining up child care is never easy, we often have to cancel plans or one of us has to stay home as we just can’t make it work. So when opportunities like last weekend come up and everything aligns, we run. Think the Ikea commercial where the lady is screaming “Start the car”, it’s pretty much the same situation over here. So last Sunday afternoon we counted down the minutes until our sitter showed up and then we headed out for a date night at Rowena’s Inn on the River and it was exactly what we needed.

Rowena’s Inn on the river is a boutique bed and breakfast located an hour and half east of Vancouver. Nestled on the riverbanks of the Harrison river the resort offers breath taking views of the surrounding area.  It truly is a hidden gem of the Fraser Valley and the perfect getaway destination for a quiet over nighter that isn’t too far from home.

When we checked in we were quickly directed down a little road that led past the inn and into the trees beside it. Once we came around the corner there were four little cottages nestled on the edge of the trees. We found our selves staying in Phyllis’s cottage for the night. I think it’s safe to say we were both blown away by all the cottage had to offer.

Phyllis’s cottage offered us unobstructed views of the river right from our bed and of course the private patio outside. Not only was it beautiful but it was quiet! The patio quickly turned into my favourite spot and it was the perfect place to sip a glass of a wine!  The cottage also offered a two person jacuzzi tub and a fireplace that was pre stacked and ready to be lit. We also found a few of our favourite board games in the living area.

Our date night at Rowena’s Inn on the River was the perfect little staycation away from the kids. It gave us a chance to catch up with each other with out being interrupted a million times. We were able to eat dinner while it was still hot, hallelujah, relax in the hot tub and we even attempted to sleep in! I say attempted because who are we kidding we are pretty much wired to wake up at the crack of dawn these days. While the cottages certainly won us over with their quaintness the resort as a whole was so beautiful, especially the rose bushes. I think it’s safe to say we will most definitely be going back as I would love to see the resort in the winter and put that fireplace to use!
