Eyelash Extensions; Saying Goodbye to Racoon Eyes

With our recent vacation to Maui and summer now upon us at home, I new I had lots of time in the sun in my forceable future. When we were away on our trip I didn’t want to spend precious vacation time in the bathroom wrestling with my mascara, just to have it running down my face the moment I stepped outside. I mean who likes raccoon eyes? I also didn’t want to skip make up completely, as I wanted to look somewhat alive on our trip. Let’s face it, time change and toddlers don’t mix well and there is no hiding tired mom eyes with out a little help. I wanted that, why yes I woke up like this look, as I chased my rambunctious toddlers down the beach. So I knew before we left for Maui I wanted to give eyelash extensions a go, what I didn’t know is that I would end up wanting to keep them all summer long. This summer I am saying goodbye to raccoon eyes!

When I set out to get my eyelash extensions done, I knew absolutely nothing about them, aside from the fact that they look amazing. I also didn’t realize that my local beauty lounge, In a Wink Lash & Beauty Lounge, books up months in advance for appointments. Well duh, there is a reason for that, the ladies do an amazing job! Needless to say as the world would have it a last minute cancellation happened and Melissa was able to sneak me and the kids in the day before we left. YES, you just read that right, I brought the kids with me. So lets just take moment here to go over the number one rule of getting your lashes done.

DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS.

I repeat.

DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS.

Yes, it was last minute. Yes, I could not find a sitter for the life of me but I did what I had to do. I HAD to get my lashes done so, I brought the kids with me. I also brought along the iPads, waters and plenty of goldfish that literally were scattered EVERYWHERE. Now let me tell you this was probably the longest two hours of my life and as a mom probably one of the most uncomfortable and out of body feelings ever. I was lying there with my eyes basically glued shut for two hours while my two kids were very present and I could not see what they were doing!!! Ahhhhh. But we survived and my lashes looked amazing, I swept up a lot of goldfish crumbs and we learnt a very valuable lesson.

DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS.

Aside from leaving with a very valuable lesson, I left with exactly what I wanted. I left with gorgeous thick,  eyelashes. While they did take a little while to get used to, as well as a few of the rules that come with them. Like no getting them wet for the first day, and keeping all my favourite face oils far away from them, they were an absolute breeze to maintain. It was amazing to wake up every day and feel as if I was ready to just walk out the door with my sun kissed skin and eyelashes. There was no worry of makeup running on the beach or left over mascara staining my pillow cases, seriously its been amazing! On mornings when we have preschool there is no deciding between makeup or breakfast, the amount of the eyelash extensions have saved me is amazing.

My initial treatment was done by Melissa, she is the owner of In a Wink Beauty Lounge. Not only is she super sweet and a lash expert but she is a trained PhiBrows Royal Artist, as well as trainer. A PhiBrows certification is the highest acknowledgment in the field of eyebrow microblading. I honestly can’t speak of many that would have the talent and patience to stay focused and do such an amazing job with two monkeys in a room. Seriously I was just lying there and I was sweating profusely!

I have since had them filled once, I went a daring 4 weeks in-between appointments. While they had definitely thinned out as they fell out with my natural lashes they still looked amazing! And incase you are wondering I went solo to my fill appointment and it was like a little slice of heaven. While I don’t think I will keep them forever, I want to keep them for the length of the summer. In my opinion there is nothing better than some beach hair, sun kissed skin and a set of clump free, perfectly curled thick black lashes.

Do you have a beauty treatment that you treat yourself to on a regular basis? If so what is it? Hair? Nails? Lashes?
