These days essential oils are all the rage. No matter where you turn they’re like the sticky fingers of your children stalking you on your way. You can buy them at the mall, your girlfriend on Facebook is selling them, the moms at school are selling them, heck your grandma is even selling them, they are everywhere! Now before we go any further I should disclose a few things with you. 1. I am not a pro when it comes to essential oils, if anything I’m as newbie as newbie gets. 2. I do not sell them and I have no plans to, nor am I trying to push them on you. What I am here to share is a few ways that I have found them to be useful in my everyday life. Here are my 5 ways to use essential oils in your home.
Diffuse them! Probably the most common use of all and the one that most people start with, diffusing. Most often the suppliers, gosh these essential oils are starting to sound like drugs now ;), sell a wide range of diffusers as well. Even as a newbie I currently have 3, yes 3, in my house. I have one in my living room, one in my bedroom and one in the kids room. By diffusing essential oils not only are you making your space smell amazing, you are purifying the air. By purifying the air you are eliminating excess dust, dander and other allergens making your environment cleaner and healthier. The different scents offered through diffusing also help set the mood for your environment. Giving you a wide variety of options whether it be a calming one, uplifting, or energizing.
Dryer Balls. This is a new one to me and probably my new favourite. Shake a couple drops of your favourite scent onto your dryer balls before popping them into the dryer and have your clothes come out with a soft scent. No over powering perfume fragrance, again you pick the mood, calming, refreshing, energizing and the best part is you can switch it up. My personal favourite is a lavender blend.
Chest Rubs. With cold and flu season well upon us this one is a life saver in our house. Especially for myself being pregnant and unable to take anything for my symptoms. Take a bit of your favourite natural balm, I prefer K’Pure Naturals Overachiever, and mix a few drops of peppermint and eucalyptus oil and mix them together. Then rub on your chest and feet for relief.
House Hold Cleaner. Yes you can use them to clean your house! Skip purchasing your cleaning products that are often filled with harmful chemicals at the grocery store and opt for something you can make at home in a matter of minutes and often with ingredients you have on hand. For instance a simple window cleaner consists of water, rubbing alcohol, vinegar and peppermint oil.
Crayon / Marker remover. As a mom this is probably a favourite. We all have that budding artist in our house that decides the walls are boring and could use a little makeover. Simply put a drop of pure lemon essential oil on a qtip and gently rub away the artwork from your walls. Instant life saver. I just don’t recommend letting your kids know how easy it is to fix as theres a chance they will be doing it all over again 😉
