6 Baby Essentials I Wish I Had the First Time

One would think that with Ryerson being our third child we would essentially have everything nailed down. But truth be told I think with every child there is always going to be something you either wished you did differently or wished you had. Also with the age difference between him and Hazel being five years, it means a lot of things have changed since then. New products have it the market, some products have been revamped in that time and then are some things you try the second or third time around and are just like why didn’t I have that before? So without further ado here are 6 Baby Essentials I Wish I had the First Time.

First and foremost is the Snuggle Me Organic baby lounger. Baby loungers weren’t a thing when Hazel was a baby and now they are everywhere!! When it comes to sleep though, it can be a very touchy subject and ensuring safety measures are taken so do your research before purchasing anything. I purchased one of the Snuggle Me Organic baby loungers and it was heaven sent. We used it exclusively in the bed between our pillows for the first month and it made the nights so much smoother. It was easy to pull him in and out for night time feeds with the smallest amount of disturbance and we were close enough that he could still sense us. I honestly think we had the most sleep that first month out of all three kids.

Another essential I wish I had with Hazel, a wrap. I tried a wrap with Everett and instantly fell in love with the convenience and ease of use, there was no going back. With Ryerson I have been using Beluga Baby Wraps,  they are made out of the softest bamboo, making them super comfy for both you and baby. Both of the boys have had some of their best naps snuggled up nice and close to my chest and I have still been able to do things like cook or sip a coffee.

One thing I find super handy during the first six months is having a change station set up in the living room. In the past I have set up our pack and play with its change table and bassinet and that’s been my central hub for all things baby. This time I’ve tried to limit the large gear in the living room and opted for a basket that sits under our coffee table. I keep it stocked with nursing and changing essentials, diapers, wipes, Overachiever from K’pure, and this super cute mat from Gathre. The micro mats from Gathre are perfect to use as a quick change mat. Made of leather they are super easy to wipe off and fold down nicely to be tucked away when not in use. They are small enough you can tuck one into your bag for when out and about!

Another contributor to our amazing sleep we are getting, its this swaddle from ErgoPouch. I have never been one to really swaddle the kids (fail) but in my defence they all have been like little ninjas getting out almost instantly. I tried the ErgoPouch cocoon swaddle with Ryerson and it was like a dream come true. As soon as I zip him up each night, he settles almost instantly and will sleep contently for nice long stretches!

A Double duty product that is so handy when we are out and about is this baby cover from The OVer company. The best part is it acts as a triple duty product which resulting in less space being used in your diaper bag, win win. Not only is it the perfect nursing cover for on the go feeds. It can be used as a car seat cover, perfect for shielding baby from the elements and it can also be used as a shopping cart cover to limit contact with pesky germ bugs! I always just covered the other twos car seat with a light muslin blanket and often found when I peeked I would disturb them. With the OVer cover there is no need to disturb as I can just peek through the handle!

Lastly my new favourite essential is a bottle warmer. While a bottle warmer isn’t a new product to us, we had one with Hazel, we just didn’t have one to this caliber. The Baby Brezza is pretty much the king of bottle warmers. Unlike our previous warmer the Baby Brezza has two different settings, one for formula and food and one for breast milk. Not only that but it can be used to thaw breast milk while still preserving the nutrients. A huge bonus is that you can control it from your phone, allowing you to pop in your bottle and instead of standing there patiently waiting you can be alerted that its ready.
