For the past couple of years the Tulip festivals have been all the rage in the valley during the spring. While the popularity boomed once Abbotsford started theirs up in 2016, truth be told Chilliwack had been at it for many years before. With a location change in 2017 it put Chilliwack back on the Tulip map and for the past few years visitors have flocked to both tulip fields during April and May to take in the thousands of gorgeous blooms.
Due to some hectic scheduling and I think a decent rainfall (it is Raincouver after all) we missed visiting the tulip fields last year and I promised myself we would make it this year. Well this year found us with an even busier schedule – le sigh – and a certain someone working later days due to the good weather we found ourselves almost missing the tulips again.
The very last night I decided to take Hazel down to the tulip fields, just the two of us on a whim. With Ev working longer hours and the boys being a little extra lately I needed a breath of fresh air and Hazel needed some one on one time. So knowing that the gates closed at 7pm and sunset would be right around the same time we consumed our dinner as fast as we could and then hopped into the car and drove off into the sun.
She was so so so excited to go, practically running across the field to get to the tulips, leaving me trailing in the dust. Once we reached the fields I just let her wander and dance amongst the flowers and tried my best to keep up and snap as many pictures as I could. I practically had to drag her away as she would have stayed all night if she could!
I am so glad that we were able to sneak it in, even just for a little bit that last night. Going the last evening just before close was almost a bit of a treat as the tulip fields were virtually empty and we almost had the place to ourselves. It was worth every second!
