Explore Chilliwack; Six Places to Adventure
Where we live in the Fraser Valley, Chilliwack to be exact, we are so blessed with natural gems, both hidden and not. There are plenty of rich forests, lakes and hike trails to be explored. Many more than the six I am to mention here. I think Explore Chilliwack is going to be our slogan this summer as we try and visit each and every one of these spots many times over.
Explore Chilliwack; Six places to Adventure
Vedder Rotary Trail: After this weekend this is a new favourite for us. Spanning 8 km’s from Vedder road to the Blue Heron Reserve the trail runs along the Vedder River. Nestled along the way are parks and access points to different Sardis neighbour hoods. It’s the perfect community spot to get out and enjoy the outdoors. We even found a secret Fairy forest nestled amongst the trees. Bring your runners, strollers, bikes and even your horse, this trail is for anyone and everyone!
Cultus Lake: Cultus Lake home to various campgrounds, the infamous Waterpark and it’s sister the Adventure Park (read about those here) as well as various trails and hikes. We spent most of last summer enjoying the lake, including a day boating, and are eagerly counting down to do it all over again. This year we’ve added exploring some of the local trails and hikes to our list, starting with Teapot hill.
Chilliwack Lake: A true gem nestled up in the mountains just a short drive outside of the city centre. During the summer months the lake is crystal clear and the beach is covered in a soft fine sand. You can spend a day or even camp at one of the many spots up there. With limited to no cell service it truly is off the grid allowing you to enjoy the gem that it is. Emily and I shot some of my maternity photos nearby at the entrance to the Lindman lake trail. If you are setting out to explore Chilliwack this summer, Chilliwack lake should be at the top of your list.
Explore BC; 5 family Friendly Things to do in the Okanagan
Blue Heron Reserve: Situated at the end of the Vedder Rotary Trail in Greendale, the Blue Heron Reserve is a wetland area, home to Great Blue Herons. The reserve is home to one of the largest heron nesting colonies in the lower mainland and is filled with various trails and viewing platforms, perfect for bird watching. This is next to check off on our explore Chilliwack itinerary.
Promontory Trails: Another new favourite for us and fortunately enough right outside our door. Living on the mountain has it’s perks as there are plenty of different trails throughout the community to explore, all within a short walking distance. We have explored a few smaller ones over the last couple of years and this week started out on the first part of the Mt. Thom hike. We walked out our front door and were able to cover just under 5km while visiting three different trails and a set of the hills famous stairs. Hazel and I are now hoping to tackle them all by the end of the summer. If you are out to explore Chilliwack, the view of the valley from Mt. Thom is one of the best!
Cheam Wetlands: A regional park in eastern Chilliwack, over looking the ever beautiful Mt. Cheam. Another wetland area filled with over 184 different bird species. It has various trails and viewing platforms to enjoy the surroundings.
