Genesis G70; The Girls in the Bright White Sports Car

“Here they come
The girls in the bright white sports car
Waving their arms in the air
Who do they think they are
And where did they get that car….”

Our Weekend with the Genesis G70

This past weekend Evan and I headed downtown for a little over night escape without the kids (more on that later and trust me you will want to come back for that). For an added element to our weekend escape Richmond Genesis lent us a Genesis G70 for the weekend. What we didn’t realize is that what we thought was going to be a fun little sports car for two would actually end up being a favourite for the whole family.

From the moment that the team at Genesis Richmond dropped the car off at our house, yes they dropped it off at our house!! The kids were absolutely smitten with the car. It was white, shiny, appeared to go fast and wasn’t riddled with goldfish…yet. Just kidding there was no eating in this car!  They were begging to go for a ride in the new car, so of course we obliged and on Friday night we loaded all five of us into the car and took it for a spin. Now if you caught my instastories over the weekend, you might remember Hazel was asking if the car had different modes…pretty sure when I was five cars didn’t have modes and if they did I didn’t know anything about them. Here’s what she had to say about the car:

“Mom can we keep this car for forever? It goes really fast and I love it.”

Genesis G70

Seat position: Back seat, passenger side, 5 point harness

  Favourite G70 mode: Launch mode

Favourite G70 feature: The backseat fold down armrest and cupholders

Favourite Driving Song: Look What You Made Me Do – Taylor Swift

Average Cruising Speed: FAST

Annual Powerwheels crashes: Too many to count

Now before we go any further I know what you’re thinking. Did you really get all five of you in that car?! And the answer is heck yes we did! Much like my normal mom mobile, a compact five seater car, we were able to get three carseats across the backseat of the G70! Not only did we get all three kids in the back but the trunk is beyond spacious and I was able to fit my full size stroller in the back, with plenty of room to spare. START THE CAR!!! This was a huge win for me as space is one of my number one requirements for a car.

One of my other favourite features of the car was the heads up display. I actually called Evan from the car as I started driving down the street to tell him about this amazing feature because it blew my mind. The heads up display projects the current speed limit, your speed, any park zones, as well as blind spot detections on your cars windshield as you drive. This allows you to stay in tune with your current speed without taking your focus off the road. Of course I called him using the Apple Car app, another favourite, that pops up on the generous display screen in the car.

While Hazel loved the launch mode, I preferred the sport mode. When you switch to this mode from eco or comfort the display lights switch to a racy red colour to match the sporty red interior stitching in the upholstery. And get this, the seat arms move inwards to hug your body as if you are driving a race car. It’s a nice fun touch that the inner Danica Patrick in me much appreciated.

If only I were as up with the times as the car is, as the wireless charging pad located in a dash compartment would have charged my phone for me while I was driving. Sadly I am still in the 6s world and had to actually plug my phone in, so sad I know.

And did it go fast? Of course it did. The team at Genesis Richmond brought out the Genesis G70 3.3T Sport for us, which has a 3.3L twin turbo v6 engine. It went fast, was able to stop beautifully with the Brembo breaking system and most importantly, was quiet.

So to answer the question that I know is burning inside of you all. Would I drive this car as my daily driver with three kids? No, I wouldn’t. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved the Genesis G70 and I might have shed a tear as it pulled out of my driveway on Monday. But as a mom of three littles that are all still in car seats this car is a distant dream for me, even though it has more trunk space than my current car. The ideal person for this car is a mom (or dad) who’s children are a tad bit older. Perhaps still in booster seats or in the 10+ age range. It’s the perfect car for those empty nesters or those with no plans for young kids anytime soon.

The Genesis G70 is fun, it’s fast, affordably priced and just that perfect bit of luxury that we all need in our lives.
