ONSTAR; For When Life Throws You Curves

Just like the perfect game of baseball, life often throws us a curve or two as we navigate our way through our journey. We can plan and plan, preparing ourselves for just about everything that might come our way but often at times there is still the unpredicted. A situation we ourselves found ourselves in early this year.

As many of you know and have read Ryerson’s birth was anything but ordinary (read it here). It was a situation I never dreamed in a million years that we would end up in. We often get asked how we managed to stay so calm while we were in it and the only thing we can say is you just roll with it. Naturally your body and mind just take over and you do what you have to do. Any of the bad things, the what ifs, the could go wrongs, those don’t even enter your mind. At least for us they didn’t enter our mind until after the fact.

A day or two after everything went down, as the natural adrenaline of the situation wore off and we were settling into our new routine as a family of five, that’s when the what ifs started to roll in. Slowly the thoughts of all the things that could have gone wrong started to enter our thoughts. From his cord being wrapped around his neck, or him not breathing when he came out, or him not facing the right way, to something happening to me during the labour. Evening knowing how I fumbled with my phone when I attempted to call 911, has had me thinking about how prepared we are on when we are on the road each day.

We often find ourselves traveling on the highway, off visiting family or friends, headed to doctors appointments or even off to work in my husbands case. Most times our trips are over an hour each way. With three kids in the car and having gone through the situation of Ryersons birth, I find myself stressing about being a little more prepared when we go out. From packing extra water and snacks, changes of clothes to warm blankets in the colder weather. Ensuring our phones are always fully charged or charging while we are on our way to our destination to adding in a like OnStar to ensure we reach our destinations safely. Providing assistance with the touch of a button (no fumbling phones here) OnStar is the leader in vehicle safety and security. As I’ve already learnt this year, emergencies can happen to anyone, anywhere, it’s better to be prepared and OnStar can add that peace of mind of while on the go with your family.
