O’Shae the Octopus

Earlier this month we had the pleasure of attending the book signing for Brandee Bubles first book O’Shae the Octopus. We have been really keen on introducing books and reading to Hazel,  so this was an event we weren’t going to miss. The book signing was lots of fun, it was held at Kidsbooks and  the store was buzzing with excitement as a majority of the people at the event were friends and family of Brandee.  It was great to see how supportive the Buble family is of each other, her grandpa was there all night and even her older brother Michael was there for a bit! We headed out pretty quickly after we got our copy signed as it was past Hazel’s bedtime and she had no idea what was going on. Brandee wrote a beautiful message in her book and I hope it’s something she will cherish forever.

O’Shae the Octopus is a beautifully written children’s book about a young octopus named O’Shae. Now O’Shae is a bit different than other octopuses as he has 10 arms instead of 8. O’Shae runs into a couple of bullies in the book that point out his differences but his mom and friends remind him that it’s what makes him special. The premise of the book is to remind us all that our differences are what makes us unique and we should use our differences to our advantage.  The book is bright and colorful with lots of fun illustrations through out.  Even though Hazel isn’t quite old enough to understand what was going on she was babbling away and pointing at all the colorful illustrations while  we were reading the book. It’s in high rotation in our favourite books to read before bed time.

We haven’t gotten into reading bedtime stories yet but would love to in the next month. Right now my favourite part is warm cuddles on the couch at 9 until she passes out usually around 10.

When my daughter was little, I loved reading books and getting a big hug before lights out. I now have a grand-baby on the way and can’t wait to have special moments with him/her as well.

My favorite part of bedtime is quiet time just before my little one goes to sleep.. Sometimes we tell stories, read a book, or do a puzzle.
