Four Steps to the Perfect Vancouver Staycation
{This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Burrard Hotel . All opinions are 100% mine.}
A few weeks ago Evan and I were very fortunate to be able to escape downtown for a little staycation with out the kids. We get the odd date night out here and there but over nighters are far and few between, especially with Ryerson being so young still. With our anniversary being so close as well, there was no way we could say no to a weekend out, so when the opportunity came up for a staycation in Vancouver, we ran!
Being that our staycation was a quick 24 hours, we had to make the most of our time and jam in as much as we could. While it is always fun to bring the kids into Vancouver, theres just something special about enjoying some kid free time. You know not wrestling a stroller in and out of the car, chasing kids as they take off, enjoying a hot meal and of course some adult conversation…that usually pertains to things about the kids, ha! For our mini staycation we had the luxury of driving a Genesis G70 from Genesis Richmond, (read your about that here) and we had a specific plan set out for our staycation;
Play. Eat. Shop. Sleep.
First up on our staycation plan was to SHOP! Shopping is always a must when downtown for the day. It’s been forever since we’ve spent an afternoon downtown wandering the streets and shopping. We used to go downtown every couple of weekends and grab brunch and just wander. It felt good to be able to do so at leisure again. A must stop in for us is Minichiello Jewellers, even if its just to gaze and create a never ending wishlist! While I wasn’t shopping for anything new, we popped in to add Ryersons name to my bar necklace and I cannot wait to see it with all three kids names on it now.
Next up on our staycation was to EAT! Ok we might have eaten more than once, in fact we stopped to nibble and sip quite a bit. There is just something so nice about being able to pop in to a restaurant grab a drink and an appetizer, have a grown up conversation (about the kids of course), take your time and then move onto either another restaurant or another activity. Of course of all the weekends we had free it decided to rain, because of course, so we both were in the mood for comfort food. Luckily Burgoo was located right where we were staying and we popped in for sandwiches and soup to warm us up before carrying on.
PLAY! It’s always good to keep things lighthearted when on a staycation, so getting in a little adventuring or play is always fun. I mean there is only so much shopping ones husband will put up with and only so much food one can consume before their pants no longer fit 😉 Luck would have it for us that there was a BC Lions game happening on the Saturday we were downtown. I absolutely love going to sporting events whether its football, hockey, baseball, there is just something about going to a game and taking it all in. I couldn’t always tell you much about whats going on at the game, or the rules per say, but the atmosphere and the energy from the crowds is what makes it for me. And when BC Lions tickets start at $20 for the general admission Beach Party Zone, how can one say no? The game was super entertaining and over early enough that we could still go out after for another drink and snack.
Lastly and the most important key to a staycation is the STAY part! We love to travel and having previously worked in the hotel industry we love a good hotel stay, where you are going to stay can truly make or break your staycation. For our night we stayed at The Burrard Hotel, probably the cutest boutique hotel nestled right in the heart of downtown. It’s like someone scooped up a little hotel from Palm Springs and buried it in between the high-rises of Vancouver. The hotel was centrally located so we were able to walk everywhere we wanted or borrow the hotel bikes. And the courtyard was filled with tropical plants and the coziest fire pit. The Burrard hotel was quiet, it was fun and most importantly it was perfect for our little night without the kids.
Four Steps to the Perfect Vancouver Staycation
Now I know that I’m not alone when I say everyone could use a little staycation every now and then. More often than non the booking of said staycation isn’t the problem its lining up the child care for the time. Am I right or am I right? I would love to say I have your back and I’ll help you out with the child care while you go enjoy a weekend away but my hands are a little full over here but what I can do is help you out with a place to stay. Now how does that sound? Thanks to our friends at The Burrard you can either use the code CHEERIO to receive 15% off your booking when booked directly through the hotel (click here) as well as a welcome basket of snacks and drinks or one lucky reader will win a 2 night stay for them and a guest at The Burrard Hotel! How amazing is that? Simply fill out the below rafflecopter to enter!
Good luck everyone!!

I should say that I’d take my husband with me but TBH two nights in a hotel completely alone sounds pretty great too.
Yes! And I wouldn’t judge you if you opted for a little solo retreat.
I keep trying to leave a comment for the contest. For some reason I can’t seem to get it to work from my phone. While a solo retreat would be amazing so would a couples get away as combined we have 8 children and us time is so very important in this hectic world we live in!!
I love the Burrard so much, it’s such a cool
Place to stay in Vancouver that gives off a whole new vibe!
I’d love a staycation with my hubby!
That patio courtyard is gorgeous!
Totally fun! I’d bring my husband … but also be tempted to take the kids.
I would bring my daughter so we could have a ‘vacation’ in Vancouver. We like going there, but always have to leave to get home in time for bedtime. Would be fun to be able to do some nighttime stuff and then sleepover.
My husband! If he’s too busy with our arcade opening, my sister. Or even just by myself. I just need to get away!
I would definitely take my husband – we need a staycation after a month of doing house renovations!

I would love a little getaway with my husband. It’s been years since just the two of us got away, alone.
Finding childcare is always a hard aspect! My hubby and I are on a staycation right now for our anniversary!
My mom, has a super stressful job so once a year in October I try to take her for at least a one night stay in Vancouver where we get all our Christmas shopping done and she enjoys some much needed R&R and we get to hang out! I’d love to win this for her as her year has been way too stressfu! She works everyday till at least 10pm and wakes up at 5am! She needs a getaway!
I’ve wanted to check out the Burrard for a while now! I’d have to bring my husband, or I’d probably be in trouble… but a peaceful night for 1, away from the craziness of home, sounds good too lol
I’d take my girlfriend for sure.
I’d take my hubby! He didn’t grow up in the lower mainland so hasn’t explored a whole lot downtown, would be fun to stay down there!
Great blog post ✨ Such a funky place to stay!! So many cool things to experience in Vancity! I’d bring my hubby xo
It would be me and the hubby of course! After having twins in April, I don’t think we could get away much further than Vancouver!
I’d bring my partner. We could use a break, it’s been a tough summer.
I’d love to stay at the Burrard with my fiancé, would be a lovely staycation! ☺️
I would love to bring my big sister for a staycation away from our kiddos! 🤣
It’s my boyfriend’s birthday soon! I’d love to take him on a staycation at the Burrard!

I would take my husband, we could do use sometime away.
Oooo is stay with my husband (and baby!) haha
My husband and I desperately need a little getaway. We have been through so much together. I have had a few life threatening illnesses over the last 9 years, and have fought for life and we have stuck together the entire way! We have a 2 year old little girl and we haven’t had a little getaway in years because of my health and then since having our daughter so this would be a real treat! We really need a little break together. Fingers crossed!
I’d find someone to watch the kids and take my husband!!
Oh man! A two night getaways sounds heavenly after this weekend. Our new to kindergarten daughter is feeling all the feels and our two year old son, is well, two (and also wakes up before 5 each day so the idea of sleeping in sounds too good to be true). Here’s hoping!
This would be an amazing getaway! Could really use some time to unwind.
A staycation with Hubby is Always needed 😉
I would 100% take my husband. We need a serious break from life and reality right about now!!!
this would be lots of fun with my family.
I would take my bff for a girls night out!
